Social Media Campaign Evaluation

Some things I wish I did differently was to post more photos. I was getting to caught up in making sure everything was perfect rather than focusing first about getting my business out there. I've learned not to wait until your perfect to post photos in regards of being a photographer. I am now more skilled at taking photos, but not as many followers as I could have had. If I had posted more often from the beginning of the semester to now I would have more followers and be at the same level of skill as I am now, but instead I was a little insecure and thought I would just wait until I got better.

Something I wish I realized sooner was to become friends with those who became my clients and whatever photos I posted of them I would tag them. This would have became almost like free advertisement because all their friends would have seen it.

On the other hand this past semester I have been able to get a lot more business because of promoting it online but also in actual situations when meeting people. For example I started attending a business networking group which got me a client that was actually one of my personas!

I was able to get 2 out of my 4 personas. The first one being a young guy who was called to serve a mission for the LDS church and hired me to take some farewell photos for him and his family.

The second persona that I got was a Real Estate agent who was referred to my Facebook page and asked if I could take photos of a house that she was listing on the market.

Even thought most of my clients came from within people I already knew or through referrals. I have received a lot of followers through advertising and hopefully soon they will become future clients.

Facebook Insights

        

         My analysis for my Facebook insights is that most of the traffic came from paid advertisement. I paid $15 for one of my posts to be advertised for one week. The post was advertised with my friends and their friends. In return I was able to get my Facebook page viewed more and also receive more likes from people I don't know. I actually got one client who is wanting family photos done for this weekend. In the end that paid advertisement was well worth my money and I plan on doing it again in the future. I think also with the weather being quite warmer these past few months compared to last year I was able to get more clients who are still have a chance on getting those beautiful fall photographs. If I can I will post a video/commercial and see the advantage I may have with that compared to just a normal photograph post.

On the Media: Bing Cosby

My talking points on the story, identifying basic meaning.

• Bing Crosby helped change the american popular singing and the way radio was produced
• Bing Crosby was the first to pre-record radio shows on magnetic tape
• Bing Crosby $50,000 investment in impax was the origin of the magnetic tape recorder in America which was originally invented in Germany and then later on used by the Nazis. 
• He was also an early investor in flash freezing and ended up with a big roll in the development of minuet maid. 
• Bing Crosby was partially responsible for the birth of Silicon Valley. Bringing magnetic tape technology to a wider market helped technology find a better way to record and save data.

Main Point - Basically Bing Crosby was the major influence to the music industry of recording music using magnetic tape which is still used today.

There are no issues found with Bing Cosby. I was not able to discover anything negative concerning him. Brooke Gladstone and her guest both gave a correct history of Bing Crosby.fr I would say Bing Crosby would be in the top 3 influential artists that shaped the entertainment history in America. What Brooke offered as far as the podcast is concerned is good stuff, the kind of stuff that changes the world for better. 

On the Media: Real Police Shootings

My talking points on the story, identifying basic meaning.

• "The public wants to be comforted by the historic cop who always makes the right decision." Generally that's why most movies try and make their cops always look like the good guys. 
• Hollywood tries to make any police shooting be good and not show that a cop can be emotional or unprepared because if that then becomes the generality of filming with cops we might feel a little anxious about their role in our society
• There is a question to how hollywood responds to police involved shootings recorded and posted online which looks nothing like on the screen. How does the entertainment adapt to real life shootings?

My position on the story providing a supporting or opposing argument supported with evidence. 

I don't believe the entertainment industry or high production quality movies will adapt much to what real police shootings are like, because no one wants to watch a cop be emotionally distressed unless if it's part of the character and the show happens to be a comedy. It all depends on the context of the story and film. I do recognize that they do have to be careful with what they produce because police shootings is a sensitive topic.

 The issue I see is how to lower the police shootings. I'm not sure how the entertainment industry can help. I did stumble upon this video produced by a popular youtuber who gave his voice concerning the subject. Even though what he says may not have much veracity depending on how much he has researched himself his view does have good points to consider the viewer to research themselves. If you don't feel like watching the whole video I understand you could just skip to the 5:00 mark.

With some other research that I found if we were to have more police that were women many of the situations that involve police shootings could easily be dissolved.

On the Media: How Not to Cover Cuba

Talking points on the story, identifying basic meaning.

• US Citizens were on a hinge that if Fidel Castro died they could vacation in Cuba
• "People still can't say with real authority whether or not Castro was a communist at the time in 1957 when he had the interview" 
• Cuba is not defined by 1 thing but 4 things: Vintage Cars, Rum, Cigars, and Music
• Cuba is the forbidden fruit of the Caribbean.

As far as I know and have researched there is no veracity if Fidel Castro was a communist before he became president. There are very good assumptions regarding that Fidel Castro was a communist.

Mr. Castro’s university days earned him the image of rabble-rouser and seemed to support the view that he had had Communist leanings all along. But in an interview in 1981, quoted in Tad Szulc’s 1986 biography, “Fidel,” Mr. Castro said that he had flirted with Communist ideas but did not join the party.

“I had entered into contact with Marxist literature,” Mr. Castro said. “At that time, there were some Communist students at the University of Havana, and I had friendly relations with them, but I was not in the Socialist Youth, I was not a militant in the Communist Party.”

I think one of the issues is that we need to work on our relations with Cuba. Obama visited Cuba with no success, but now that Fidel Castro has passed away and that his brother is in his place we may have other opportunities to work with. I think another barrier is that a lot of Americans don't know how much Cuba is a part of our History. We need to stop relying solely on the media to do our research and start doing our own

Default Attitudinal Response: Not to surprised.

I went to the the website called Project Implicit to take a few different tests to see what my automatic response was regarding certain things. Generally I wasn't too surprised with the results that I received.

The first test was that if I had an automatic preference for thin people than overweight people. Before you start the test it asks a couple of questions regarding your age, your political view and where you have grown up, your job occupation..etc. Then for the test it has you put pictures with words together as fast as you can. For some of the questions it was actually quite difficult for me to answer because my answer varied depending on the context. For example, here is one of the questions it asks:

I strongly prefer Fat people to Thin people.
I moderately prefer Fat people to Thin people.
I slightly prefer Fat people to Thin people
I like Fat People and Thin people equally.
I slightly prefer Thin people to Fat people.

The reason why I struggled with this question is because I don't know in what context they are asking. I don't know if I could answer this question in a general sense. I prefer Thin people over Fat People when it comes to dating, but making friends I don't prefer one over the other. In the end I don't think my result will be completely correct because I'm aware that this is trying to test my automatic response, so therefor I have more control and I understand the purpose of the test. I'm not sure how, but if they could find a way to test someone's automatic response without the viewer or attendant knowing it they would get more accurate results. This was my 2nd result for the test.

The first result I got said that I had a little to no automatic preference for Thin people over Fat people. I think I might know why my result has changed. Recently My mom and I took out our aunt to a concert and yes she happens to be overweight. My aunt doesn't do much. She does for the majority of her time sits at home and watches TV all day. She also lives by herself at one of my grandma's houses. Well, my mom and I thought it would be a good idea to take her out to a concert because she doesn't really go out much. My entire moms side of the family has put in a lot of effort and love to help my aunt in any possible way to loose weight and to go outside of the house and get herself busy doing something productive and only a vary small portion has succeeded. This has been going on for years. We have to clean after her and she is capable of cleaning after herself, and the house gets this stench if we don't. Regardless of all that we still love her. I think though growing up visiting my aunt and living in the same house as her for a short while has given me an automatic response that all fat people are lazy and don't clean after themselves which of course is completely wrong. I think because of the recent event of taking my aunt out to this concert has brought back some memories and maybe some automatic response. This happened in between my first and second time of taking this specific test.

Well Informed: Terrorism and Tribalism

Terrorism and Tribalism are closely linked.  "The terrorists who are killing, raping, and looting throughout the West and Islamic countries are not inspired by Islam. Rather, they're the product of a resurgence of tribalism in Islamic countries and a dispossessed population oppressed by central governments."(Tribalism, not Islam, is behind Muslims’ terrorism.)

As human beings we tend to fall into groups or associate ourselves with those who make us feel accepted, or feel important. This then leads to tribalism. Most commonly we spend time with those that tend to make us feel important, needed, accepted, approved or acknowledged. Tribalism is not a bad thing. It is like being part of a family. The problem is the power or control people place over the tribe. The scary thing is someone having authority to control and dictate what happens in the tribe, rather having common consent where everyone agrees. Common consent is the beam that keeps a group in balance and not falling off the rope of sanity. When everyone agrees and is able to have a voice on what happens within the group creates a climate that limits the chance of someone seeking for power, control and an act of terrorism. Another concern is when one tribe is wanting to dictate and have control over another tribe, or in other words wanting to radicalize.

This means implementing all Islamic traditions as they were initially laid out by Muhammad and forcibly expanding their territory." (Isis Motives?) 


In other words Isis is a great example of Radicalization.

Well Informed post 2.0: Radicalization and Religion

I would safely guess that radicalization is evident in almost every society, group, organization, school, religion.. etc. There are many studies that have been done on why & how it starts, but none (as far as I have found) have not been able to find a universal answer for both those questions because everyone has different motives,goals, aspirations..etc. I would also safely guess that a lot of people radicalize without noticing or recognizing that they are doing it.

The first thing that came to my mind when thinking of the topic Radicalization and Religion my thoughts arrived at the Islamic religion. Most, if not all religions, have radical followers. On the web and media the Muslim religion has been in the spot light because of extreme Radical followers. We know that there are many routes we can take on why people are radicalized, but another question to consider is how to prevent someone or a group from being radicalized.

• "Surveys, interviews, and focus groups conducted in Nigeria in 2013 suggest that poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, and weak family structures make or contribute to making young men vulnerable to radicalization. Itinerant preachers capitalize on the situation by preaching an extreme version of religious teachings and conveying a narrative of the government as weak and corrupt. Many people don't know that they are being radicalized. I know this because I have grown up in Utah, and I have seen friends who are LDS that made choices based on what their parents, peers, and friends have forced on them in any small or big way. Their conviction doesn't come from within, but it hangs on their parents or peers. Being a little kid I could probably say I was radicalized to believe without personal conviction on a very small scale, but aren't we all in some way radicalized when being little kids? My conviction stemmed from being taught that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints was the best church to attend. From my parents I was taught something else, which made me less rigid. Even though family life is different, we tend to believe authority in our culture when being young, especially those we are taught to trust without question.

I have a friend I love dearly, but growing up I have learned to take what he says with a grain of salt. Growing up we were best friends and we would always do things together when our families would visit. I believed he would always tell the truth. We were best friends so why wouldn't he? Growing up he would always tell me new gadgets that would come out, new movies with scenes he talks about, and I couldn't see that he exaggerated or lied about a lot of things. We would work together during the summertime at a bed and breakfast owned by my grandparents, and somehow I was always put with the harder job and he with the easier one. He would go on and tell me his ambiguous future plans because of his success to only find out that he exaggerated. I would always wonder why? Why lie or exaggerate? Don't worry, we're still friends, this is only to help bring understanding. I learned later on from observance that he felt insecure about himself, and thought he had to make himself seem greater than he already was. In the beginning I was radicalized by him because he was good with his words. He knew how to tell a story, how to motivate people whether or not it was exaggeration with a few lies or the truth.  

How do we stop from being radicalized or radicalizing? First, we need to recognize it. I think if we were just able to recognize what radicalization is and what it means we would be better off preventing it. This begins when students at a very early age need to learn to be critical thinkers. If that were to happen maybe the cloud of Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy would soon dissipate. On more important matters it would create more informed civilians not always being manipulated by the media, culture or someone able to manipulate with words. It would solve a lot of the world government problems. We would have greater leaders and more efficient ways to run our society.

Tump vs Hillary 1st 2016 debate. Bingo result

After watching the debate while playing bingo, I actually was in more hope of some of these topics being brought up. A little part of me, the immature part of me, would have actually be interested in hearing a debate between Trump and Hillary about Hillary's dress.

Facebook Campaign

        Purpose

           My Facebook page is called Visionary Photography. This is a page that I have already owned and will be using for my campaign. I thought to myself "if I were going to spend time trying to traffic people to a page, might as well send them to a page that I'm originally trying to bring more people to." I've recently returned from serving a mission so this page has not received much traffic in the past two years. My goal for this FaceBook page campaign is to build myself back up and reach 200 likes by the end of the semester. I will do this by experimenting advertising using Facebook and other web media such as Instagram and posting videos on Youtube related to my photography. I will also be exposing my business face to face with people that I come in contact with on a normal basis using the skills I learned when being a missionary. I hope that as I publish more photos and videos using Facebook, Instagram, and youtube I will be able to attract more young single adults that are soon to be married and business owners who are wanting more exposure of their  business online. Since, that is where most of my revenue comes from.

A young couple in their early twenties have decided to get married. They have discovered my page by advertisement or shared post. They had looked at my Facebook page and were interested in my style of photography. Not only do they want photos, but a cinematography as well.
